NERUDA Overture
By Huseyin Arikan
as metaphor undresses, neruda
says love gives void its wings
vines come to his mind
the sky was gathered, the garden
that gave thoughts to mind descended
musical instruments were dug
out and cleaned
we gave sound its fame, returned
deprivation where it belongs
it was night. a capsized moon¹
was repeating its own image
a bird was adjusting its wings
we were orphaned by spectacle
look, water remembers
a deer remembers a hunter
who made his place out of her
and fire reads its own contradiction
when eyes get used to darkness
it gets harder to repair light
i carry your shadow in me
¹ From Canto General
