Now Accepting Contributing Writers
At Devoid, we believe:
-
There’s no shortage of 24/7 media outlets and daily publishers — Devoid Magazine writers believe that the best stories come from patient observation and listening over longer periods of time.
-
No matter how objective the piece is, we believe everyone has an inherent bias. At Devoid, we think bias has an integral place in storytelling and we use it to enhance our understanding of the topic at large by disclosing those biases instead of trying to pretend we don’t have any.
-
As a writer, how often have you been told that you need to work for free for exposure? In our opinion, that’s bullshit.
Since Devoid Magazine is brand new, it currently brings in zero dollars, in fact, everything we do costs our Editor in Chief money from her own pocket.
But it won’t always be this way — as soon as Devoid brings in a profit, we intend to pay all contributing writers for their efforts. -
Every single story we publish is backed up by a legally recorded transcript of the conversation.
We do this to maintain credibility by writing exactly what our interviewee says and providing adequate context for direct quotes. -
All Devoid writers are expected to be a mini-expert on the subject matter they are covering by the time the story is published. Stories that are not researched in-depth will not be considered for inclusion in the magazine.
Additionally, all stories should provide a fresh or more in-depth take on the subject matter in order to be considered for publishing.
We should not be able to find the exact same story written slightly differently in any other media. -
At Devoid, we publish stories from Las Vegas writers AND stories about Las Vegas culture from resident and non-resident writers.
This means that if you see a story not pertaining to Las Vegas, it’s coming from a Las Vegas-based writer.
